The 5.3L Yukon and 5.6L QX56 Engines

There has always been competition between the United States of America and Asian automobile markets. The truck and Sports Utility Vehicle market is huge and sometimes it is hard to know which companies make the best engines. GMC is one of America’s largest auto manufacturers and have a reputation for solid engines. Infiniti is a subdivision of Nissan and is one of Asia’s premiere SUV makers and Infiniti engines are well known.

One of the most tried and true GMC truck engine is the GMC 5.3 L engine found in the Yukon. These GMC engines have been the base for a large portion of GMC trucks and SUV’s. It offers 295 HP at 5600 RPM and usually comes in a V8. It features 305 foot – pounds at 4600 RPM. It has 2 valves and displaces 5328 cc with its 3.8 inch bore and 3.6 inch stroke. The compression ratio is 9.9:1. This kind of performance makes both the used and new GMC truck engine very sought after.

The Infiniti’s engine for the QX56 is even more powerful than the GMC engines. The standard Infiniti engine has 5.6 L in a V8. It has 320 hp at 5200 RPM and 393 foot – pounds of torque when running at 3400 RPM. Unlike GMC engines, the Infiniti engine has 4 valves instead of two and the 3.9 inch bore and 3.6 inch stroke which cause a displacement of 5552cc. The engine of the Infinity has the compression ratio of 9.8:1.

The GMC truck engine has been around a long time. It first started production in 1999 and has been solid ever since. The Infiniti engine emerged on scene in 2004 and impressed us. Outperforming the base GMC engines, the Infiniti engine really offered the higher performance that many people were looking for. Because of the versatility of the GMC truck engine, however, it is very easy to modify and bump up the performance of the GMC engines to rival the Infiniti engine or just upgrade from the Yukon to the Yukon XL.

As one of the most well known and loved American engines, the GMC truck engine, specifically the 5.3L V8, is used in thousands of trucks and SUV’s nationwide. Although the displacement is somewhat less than others of its size, this GMC truck engine has been a steady and powerful addition to the GMC line.

The Infiniti engine in the QX56 shows us some of what Asia can bring to the area of SUV. This motor lasts and already come with the power that many people really love. Add to that the unique look and you have the makings of a new classic.

Both the GMC engines and the Infiniti engine have a lot going for them, most notably the ability to outlast their SUV bodies. Because the GMC truck engine and the Infiniti engines are so solid and reliable it is easy to find these motors used and in good condition. The GMC truck engine, in particular, is extremely versatile and can be used in many SUV’s and trucks, not only ones made by GMC.

When comparing Scion engines to Volkswagen Engines, it is plain to see that both the VW engine and Scion models have been designed to be efficient, reliable, and powerful engines for economy and compact sized frames. The two specific models we will be looking to compare today are the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta and the 2011 Scion Tc.

Scion engines have many similar qualities to VW engine design. Scions current 2011 tC engines are documented as 2.4 liter with 162 horsepower, redlining at 6000 rpm, and running 0-60 in around 8.4 seconds (varying on options installed). Optimized for automatic transmission, this engine gets 21mpg in city and 24mpg on highway travel.

The Volkswagen engines put into the 2011 VW Jetta are a 2.5 liter with 170 horsepower, running 0-60 in roughly 8.2 seconds, redlining at 5700 rpm, taking 14.5 gal of standard fuel this VW engine gets 23mpg in the city and 30mpg on highway travel. These specifications between Volkswagen engines and Scion engines are very similar with close to the same performance reviews.

With the rising popularity custom-modification and optional installation of recent times, it is easy to see why Scion engines are increasingly attractive to younger drivers.

Volkswagen engines contain six crank shaft bearings coordinating with an aluminum alloy cylinder head, with a double overhead camshaft, this combination produces 177 lbs-ft. of torque, a relatively strong performance for this size of VW engine. Compared to Scion engines which puts out 162 lbs-ft of torque, the VW engine maintains the upper-hand.

When looking to compare Volkswagen engines with Scion engines, you will notice the Scion tC is estimated to average $18,995. When paying for the performance of the VW engine, you can expect to drop about $16,500 for a stock edition, and more depending on options. These prices do not take into account the used tC and Jetta models of 2008 and 2009, which can be said to cost a substantially lesser amount.

Volkswagen engines and Scion engines differ when it comes to legacy and renown. If looking for a more sleek body design, it can be said that the Scion tC is a more futuristic and sleek looking coupe while The VW Jetta is a four-door option that contains more headroom and would be more suitable for families.

Overall Volkswagen engines are more reliable while Scion engines are more readily customized. As both are reliable and stylish, it really comes down to preference. The VW engine is a legacy, and the Scion engines, in comparison are fairly new.

When considering buying or leasing Volkswagen engines or other parts and cars, it is wise to discuss and inform your local automobile dealer of any concerns you have with the prospect of looking into a buying a used vehicle.

Most salespeople will go through the steps which they will explain the process that they go through to inspect and test all used vehicles, and will reassure you that all used vehicles on their lot are guaranteed to be a quality vehicles.
