Have security at the gate to keep those pesky midgets out.
1/. You may need event liability insurance cover. Check with your school on that.
2/. Have things like competitions for small prizes like say in running, and novelty events etc.
3/. Ask some local vendors that do food and drinks etc and see if they’ll pay you a fee to have a stand there. You can find these at local markets usually.
4/. Make sure there are security people around in case something goes wrong and if there’s trouble makers.
5/. Do some face painting.
6/. Have a competition for the most fancy dress.
7/. An art competition.
8/. Perhaps some school entertainment by say singers or a live type open air show.
9/. Some buskers.
10/. Free lemonade.
They had school carnivals at the elementry school I went to. Usually you would go in and get tickets and you would use the tickets to play the games.
Each room had a different game one would have a ring toss another would have a cake walk
a basketball type game (where you throw the ball in the hoop)
face painting
one of the games had a small kiddie pool with ducks in it and each duck had a number on the bottom and you would have to predict the number that was on the bottom of a duck and then lift the duck to see if you were correct you would win a prize.
Another thing was I think they called it the Lollypop Tree. It was this wooden pole with holes and there was lollypops sticking out and you would pick one and if the bottom of the stick was a certain color then you would win a prize.
They also had this thing called M*A*S*H which was like a face painting sort of thing but they would make it look like you had a black eye or a broken arm or scars and stuff (for some reason this was my favorite)
Out side they would have this little train sort of thing that someone would drive around and the kids would ride in.
The prizes of the games were differnt in each room. Usually the teachers were in charge of the games that went on in their room and they were the ones in charge of the prizes and stuff. The prizes were different things like beach balls, bracelets…like the kinds of stuff you get in party favores at childrens parties.
I think it depends on the age group/the school. You could do maybe like an American Idol sort of game like a karaoke thing. Jumping castles.
We had a thing sort of like that in high school but they called it something else like field day or something but basically what that was was this thing where everyone went to lunch at the same time and they had a bunch of different foods ands drinks you could purchase (pizza, hot dogs, burgers, popcorn…) they had one of those inflatable race things where you would have to climb up one side and go through a tube and what not (obstical course) and then they would have an area where bands would play music (if any of the students were in a band they would bring their instruments and play)
when i was little they had this really fun Library carnival. they had like little carnival games. and they hired some kids to volunteer to be like the people who take the tickets and give out prizes and stuff. and also have like a hotdog stand and pop. and charge it real cheap like 25 cents. Hope your carnival goes good.
Renting out the attractions I know is pricy… But if you advertise it to the neighborhood a few weeks in advance you should have a good outcome. Just be sure there is cheap food and drinks, and something that will keep the kids busy. If you can, try a silent auction or raffle drawing? That brings in money and keeps the guests happy. I just remember all my old school carnivals in elementary school, there were games, food (cotton candy was big for me then) and prizes. If you include all that, it should turn out really well
